Lens Style

Privacy Policy

Last updated 27 October 2026

Lens Style collects nothing about you. There is no account, no tracking, no advertising, and no Lens Style server for your data to be sent to. You choose whether to share a selected photo and style description with Apple to generate artwork. Finished artwork is saved to your photo library.

What Lens Style does with your photos

Lens Style turns a photo you choose into artwork. Everything below happens either on your iPhone or through Apple's own services — never through ours, because we don't operate any.

Choosing a photo

Lens Style asks for access to your photo library so you can pick a picture, and for permission to add photos so it can save what you make. It reads your library on the device to show you thumbnails and to work out what's in each picture. That reading never leaves your iPhone, and Lens Style deliberately does not download photos stored only in iCloud while it does it.

Understanding the picture

Lens Style uses Apple's Vision framework to detect faces, animals, scenes and the outline of the subject, so it can suggest styles and frame the picture well. This analysis runs entirely on your iPhone. The results are kept on your device and are never transmitted.

Face data

Lens Style detects whether a photo has faces in it. It does not recognise who anyone is, and it does not read facial features, landmarks, expressions or any measurement of a face. For each photo it keeps only two things: the number of faces Apple's Vision framework found, and the position of the largest face as a rectangle in the frame.

When you generate artwork, the photo you chose — including any faces in it — is processed by Apple Intelligence as described below. Lens Style does not send its locally calculated face counts or rectangles with it. The photo itself may contain identifiable faces.

Generating artwork: permission and Apple processing

Before each generation, Lens Style asks permission to give Apple your selected photo and the style description through Image Playground. The photo includes any faces, people, text or other personal information visible in it. These inputs are used to create the artwork you request. Choose “Don't Allow” to cancel without submitting the inputs to Image Playground. You can continue using local Dream and motion effects without this permission.

Apple may process these inputs on your iPhone or iPad or through Private Cloud Compute. Apple states that Private Cloud Compute processes request data only to fulfil your request, does not retain it, and does not make it accessible to Apple. These protections apply to data processed by that service; Lens Style does not operate a generation server or receive the submitted photo or prompt. External AI provider styles, including ChatGPT, are not enabled in Lens Style. See Apple Intelligence & Privacy and Apple’s Privacy Policy.

The Dream effect is different again: it runs a neural network built into the app, entirely on your iPhone, with no network access at all. The motion effects — Liquid, Kaleido, Echo, Focus and the rest — are real-time graphics running on your device's GPU and involve no network of any kind.

Saving what you make

Finished pictures and videos are saved to your own photo library and filed into an album called Lens Style, so the app can find its own work again. Lens Style also writes the style's name into the file's metadata — for example Lens Style · Stencil — so you can tell later how a picture was made. Those files are yours. They are stored by Apple's Photos app under your own settings, including iCloud Photos if you use it, and Lens Style has no copy.

Our other apps

The Account → Our other apps page lists our other apps. When you open it, Lens Style makes two requests:

Nothing about you or your use of Lens Style is sent in either. As with any website, the servers answering each request see your device's IP address in order to send the reply. Our website is hosted by Vercel, which may keep that address briefly in its logs; we don't use it to identify you, track you, or link it to anything else (see Vercel's privacy policy). The list is kept on your device so the page works offline, and tapping an app opens its page in Apple's App Store, under Apple's own privacy policy.

What Lens Style stores on your device

That's the complete list. None of it is transmitted anywhere, and deleting Lens Style removes all of it.

What we receive

Nothing directly. Lens Style contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting service and no third-party software development kits of any kind. The only request it makes to a site of ours is the Our other apps page described above, which sends nothing about you.

Lens Style is bought once from the App Store. Apple handles the purchase; we never see your name, email address or payment details. If you have chosen in your iPhone's settings to share analytics with developers, Apple may give us aggregate, anonymous statistics such as how many people downloaded the app or how often it crashed. We cannot identify anyone from that, and you can turn it off at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Children

Lens Style is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to access, correct or erase personal data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to retrieve or delete — but if you want to ask, or if you think this policy is wrong about something, please get in touch and we'll answer.

Changes to this policy

If Lens Style ever changes in a way that affects this policy, we'll update this page and change the date at the top. If a future version were to start collecting anything, we would say so plainly here and in the app before it did.
